Foster the People

The pictures above are the ones I took when I saw them at Coachella 2011. Before I even start I just want to say during their set at Coachella it was one of those perfect moments, the sun was setting and they were performing and the temperature was starting to get cooler. One of my favorite sets this year at Coachella. Foster the People are a indie/pop style of music. Originally form Los Angeles, California they formed when the members were all in their mid-twenties. Their new album Torches is going to be the soundtrack to my summer. Songs like "Pumped Up Kicks", "Helena Beat", and "Waste" will be the soundtrack to those long days at the beach and the BBQ parties at night.
Check out a FREE download of Pumped Up Kicks (MNDR 4-Track Remix) from RCRDLBL

Here is another great song "Houdini"

Live from Sasquatch Music Festival

If your like me and not able to attend to Sasquatch, I tell you not to worry! Clear those tears. Thanks to NPRmusic you can listen to bands performing live. I was just listening to Local Natives. I felt like I was there! I was so excited by this discovering that I had to share. Check out NPR Music website and listen to other bands!

WOLFMOTHER

Talk about rock. Wolfmother is my modern day rock vibe music. Originally from Australia, they were formed in 2000. However the band debuted self-titled album in 2005 that caught attention. I discovered them out for myself back in 2009 with their song "Women" which ended up winning a Grammy Award, for Best Hard rock Performance, in 2007. I had a chance to see them at the HOB in Anaheim earlier this year but didn't have the money to get a ticket unfortunately. The next time they come in the L.A. area I will not hesitate to buy tickets, I am obsessed with their music.

Kings of Leon Headlining Slane Castle

Kings of Leon are going to perform at Slane Castle in Ireland; May 28, 2011. Anyone that is going or has been knows of what an epic concert this will be. The concert held most years since 1981 at the Slane Castle in Slane Village. (Hence the name of the concert). This location is so perfect because with the hills of Ireland & the Stage at the bottom this creates a natural amphitheatre. This concert has the perfect surrounding with the rolling hills and the River Boyne it creates a perfect setting for an amazing concert. Although amazing it can be dangerous, some have died while trying to swim across the river to get free entrance to the concert. I recommend to just buy your ticket.

Bands that have played past shows:

1980's - The Rolling Stones, U2, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Queen, David Bowie, Eurythmics, Thin Lizzy, and Van Morrison.

1990's - R.E.M., The Verve, Faith No More, Guns N' Roses, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Van Morrison, Oasis, Spearhead, James, and Placebo.

2000's - Stereophonics, Red Hot chili Peppers, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Moby, Muse, Macy Gray, Coldplay, Kelis, Nelly Furtado, PJ Harvey, Foo Fighters, Paul Oakenfold, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Glasvegas, Kasbian, The Prodigy, Oasis.

2011 -
The Whigs, Mona, Thin Lizzy, White Lies, Elbow, and Kings of Leon

Bloody Beetroots - Death Crew 77

Bloody Beetroots - Death Crew 77 are probably one of my favorite electronic tunes! I took these pictures from when they performed at Coachella 2011. They were formed back in 2006 by producer Sir Bob Cornelius, sound familiar? They have a song called Cornelius which was in the Top 100 International iTunes downloads. What makes them so unique is their mystery of identity, during their performances they wear black Venom masks that cover their face. In 2009 I also saw them perform with Steve Aoki at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. I would definitely go see them again, with out a doubt. I feel that I would want to see them at a smaller venue, I think that would give an even better show.

Check out this made by imetrages and directed by Etienne Perrin. This video makes me want to go to another Bloody Beetroots show !!

Dr. Dog

Another band I have yet to see live, although it is on my to-do! Dr. Dog is a indie/psychedelic rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I think why I am so attracted to their music is all the different instruments they corporate in their songs. The members use bass, guitar, rhythm guitar, keyboard, drums, and a singer. Some other songs they have more of variety of instruments as well. My favorite song is Heart It Races (which is actually a cover from Architecture in Helsinki), it catches my attention every time it plays in my car. I will be keeping my eyes open for a gig this summer! Jazzy

Listen to Heart it Races!

Bombay Bicycle Club

Great sounding folk/indie band from London. Back in 2006 they were entered in "Road to V" a competition by Channel 4. BBC won the competition and were asked to play the opening performance in V Festival. I have yet to hear any tours in the US for the past couple of years so I am keeping my hopes up and fingers crossed that they jump the pound and tour in the US. Some great songs by BBC are "Always Like This", "Cancel on Me", and "Sixteen". I think all their songs are great but those three are my absolute favorite.

Paolo Nutini

24 year old Scottish Singer, songwriter. Paolo Nutini sounds to good to be true, when ever his songs come on my ipod I lose train of thought. He released These Streets back in 2006 and the one song that I think EVERYONE knows (if you don't then your living under a rock) is "New Shoes". His other famous songs include "Last Request", "Jenny Don't Be Hasty", personally I think all of his songs are amazing. Since then he has released another album Sunny Side Up, and he has been touring and performing at a handful of festivals. My idea is to listen to his tunes when looking at a great view (I know it sounds odd) but his music is easy going and grand at the same time. I hope he has a tour in the US soon, I would love to go to a gig. He is one of my favorite artists.

The Zutons

An English indie band from Liverpool has caught my attention! I first heard of them while watching Isle of Wights Festival on T.V. back in 2008. The band members include Dave McCabe, Russell Pritchard, Sean Payne, and Abi Harding. I love that the band has a girl saxophone player, she is so rad. Their most popular song is Why Won't You Give Your Love?  and Valerie. I would love to see them perform but I don't think they have yet had a proper tour in the US let alone in the L.A. area. So I am going to keep my eye open for that.
Check out their performance at the Glastonbury Festival back in 2009. I love their vibe and the crowd seems to having so much fun.

Uffie

I love her! She is From Paris and I would say her music genre is inspired by underground electronic style. She is known for her two songs Pop the Glock (my favorite) and ADD SUV. Seems as though numerous French DJs have been liking her tunes, and that was a big part in getting her songs out there. So it comes to no shock that she is most popular in underground clubs. I have not yet been to a gig of her but if she ever comes in the LA area I will be there. Her performances I hear are always interesting. Also I would love to see what she will be wearing. She is a bit of a fashion designer and she is known for her outrages fashion choices when at gigs.

Deadmau5

Can you believe that when I saw Deadmau5 at Coachella 2010 the only song I knew was Ghost N' Stuff. His show by far is one of my favorites today. The people, the vibe, the LIGHTS, and the music are all so overwhelming but in a good way. I have definitely become a huge fan of Deadmau5. I am thinking about going to his gig at the Hollywood Palladium in August.

How did Deadmau5 get his name?
One of his computers wasn't working properly so he decides to take it apart to see what caused it to crash. When opened it up he found a DEAD MOUSE. After that point his friends started to call him Dead Mouse at his shows. Then when he had to make a screen name of some sort he needed a number in the ID and Dead mouse was too long. Thus came the name DEADMAU5.
Check out a video from one of his live performances. The LED lights are epic.

THE KOOKS

The picture above is when I went and saw The Kooks at the House of Blues, Anaheim back in 2008 ! That was my first "real" concert. I don't believe they have toured the L.A. area since then. The Kooks for those who have never heard of them are an indie pop band from Brighton, England. Band members include Luke Pritchard, Hugh Harris, Paul Garred, and Max Rafferty. When I saw them in 08 they had a replacement drummer and not Paul. I was bummed! With rumors of their new album coming out I hope they schedule a tour in the L.A. area! There has been lots of talk that they will being doing a fall tour in the States. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Destronics

Currently have Destronics on repeat on my ipod! This duo of electro-pop/rock is from Lyon, France. The members are Quentin Lechemia, and David Balagna, and Jack Williams (live). Destronics has been signed with Zefyr Management which is also a new music management based in London. Their first album Digital Naive was released in September 2010, and since then France's music lovers have been non stop blogging about! I strongly recommend Downloading Feel in color single. If they ever cross the pound and come to the States I know I will be at the gig. Something you don't want to miss. From other blogs it seems as though their shows have nothing but good tunes & vibes!

Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts

A festival that I have been wanting to go to for years now! I have made it a present to myself that after I graduate college I will treat myself to go! For those who have never heard of Glastonbury it is basically a three day music festival that goes on rain or shine! They have comedy, dance, theatre, cabaret, live art, and many more brilliant things to see. Glastonbury has been active since the 1970s and every year they improve and grow. The festival is over 900 acres with 385 live performances, and over 150,000 people attend each day. In 2007 Glastonbury hosted over 700 acts and had over 80 stages on the grounds. Amazing! This year they plan on having it bigger than ever and raking in over $100 million annually! that's a lot. They take all genres of music rock, dance, hip-hop, world, pop, reggae, folk, metal, and so much more. Even though this event for this year is sold out you can still admire the line-up ! Like for the past 4 years I will be at home watching the festival from my warm living room in California.

One of my favorite videos from the Glastonbury performance is from Goldfrapp

Neon Indian

Neon Indian is a band from Denton, Texas. Their genre is sort of electronic, noise pop, with a flowing kind of vibe. The music is composed by Alan Palomo who has also worked with VEGA and Ghosthustler. I unfortunately have not seen them yet! I fell in love with their album Psychic Chasms in 2009, and every opportunity I get to see Neon Indian live something always would get in the way. So I am bummin' about it. But I am making it a goal that this year I will see them live. I want to hear Local Joke, and Psychic Chasms loud and live.
Music video for Sleep Paralysist, it's odd but in a good way.

GOSSIP

Beth Ditto is the lead singer of this trio of a band are an American Indie rock sounding that formed in 1999. I love her voice! She has this post punk indie rock vibe and with her lyrics that advocate gay rights, these songs have soul. Not only are the songs vibrant but as well as her performance. I saw her at Coachella 2010, and her set was amazing! I didn't see one person not dancing. My favorite songs are Heavy Cross, and Listen Up!  Also Your Mangled Heart. The best way I can describe Gossip is a punk rock / chic version of Adele. If that makes sense. .  So LISTEN UP!
Oh and while you are at it, check out her live performance on Alexa chung !

ROBYN

Robin Miriam Carlson or better known as Robyn. She is a Swedish singer-songwriter. Her style of music is electropop/synthpop/R&B. Her #1 hit single "With Every Heartbeat" in 2005, was the beginning of her popularity. I first heard of Robyn while watching (T.V.) performance at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Mote Park, Maidstone three years ago. She performed "With Every Heartbeat" and I fell in love with that song. She is a brilliant pop artist, you must watch her music video for "Konichiwa Bitches", she is brilliant. The music video looks like she spent a penny on it but if you really think about it all those outfits she wore must have added up. Her style is also something, she isn't your typical "popstar" her style has a funky edge too it. She recently caught the attention of Katy Perry and this summer she will be going on tour with her playing at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. I wish I could go but before my paycheck could come all three shows were sold out! I am a huge fan of Robyn! you should be too!

Bear Hands

This lovely band started up in 2006 and originally from Brooklyn, New York. Their genre is a bit of a mix with indie vibes, experimental sounding, and a dash of punk. The band members include Dylan Rau, Ted Feldman, Val Loper, and TJ Orscher. Their recent LP titled Burning Bush Supper Club came out in November 2010. They have been touring these past couple of months but unfortunately I have yet to see them! I believe the last time they played in the L.A. area it was at a 21+ venue. So I sadly wasn't able to attend. I'm telling the truth when I say there is not one song that I don't not like by them! My absolute favorites by Bear Hands would have to be Crime Pays and What a Drag. Also I will tell you to listen & download Golden by Bear Hands ! That is another favorite of mine. I have a link available below for you to download for FREE. your welcome.

Ima Robot

I cannot believe I haven't heard of Ima Robot until now! This band is based in Los Angeles and playing music since the 1990's. The well known vocalist Alexander Ebert (also vocalist from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros). The other band members include Timmy "the terror" Anderson, Justin Meldal-Johnsne, Oligee, and Joey Waronker. Ima Robot has toured with Hot Hot Heat, Hoobastank, and The Sounds. I would say the genre is experimental/indie. They have a unique sound and their songs are all generally 4-6 minutes long. I listen to them while studying or try to relax. My favorite song is Rough Night! After listing to them online for the past couple of days I have got up the courage to buy their CD online for only $9.99 how can you go wrong!

Kings of Leon at Coachella

Kings of Leon headlined one of the nights at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival 2011 in Indio, CA. While watching their set, I realized that it was one of the moments that I will never forget about. For me it's not just about the performer but the surroundings that make an epic show. There was something about being in the open desert and under the night sky that made this show not like any other. Caleb Followill's voice reminds me of the desert vibes and when he sang The Bucket I got chills. The elements of a memorable concert is the setting, the music, and the people.
The crowd was a huge part of making an unforgettable show. Being surrounded by people that let their guard down during a concert, is powerful. We are all there because we all share something in common, the love for music (KOL). I look to my right and people don't have a care in the world, and I look to my left and there are people dancing and enjoying life. I look behind me and there is a huge (I mean HUGE) crowd behind me, just watching Kings of Leon set. We were all there together simply enjoying music. I never really understood the power of music until that point.

Other Lives

Formerly known as Kunek. My recent discovery of this band has me loving their song For 12. I would say they are an indie band originally from Oklahoma. The members of this folk/indie band include Jenny Hsu, Jonathon Mooney, Josh Onstott, Colby Owens, and Jesse Tabish.Their new record Tamer Animals is coming out May 10, 2011 (tomorrow!). I for one am really excited to hear the album and will be looking out for a show in the Los Angeles area! Friends that like Fleet Foxes, S Carey, Bon Iver, Dr. Dog will like Other Lives. I promise.
Check out their set at Ameoba Records in Hollywood almost a year ago. The song is The Partisan.

Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi

They got my attention with the single Two Against One (feat. Jack White). Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi are working together in creating what I believe to be an incredible album. Listen for yourself!

Miniature Tigers

Miniature Tigers! I only just heard of this band last night from Rick (I believe that was his name) while leaving the Troubadour. Turns out they are pretty good! I want to say they are indie pop/rock. Band members include, Charlie Brand, Rick Schaier, Algernon Quashie, Alex Gerber. The band has done shows with Ben Folds, Pepper Rabbit, and Freelance Whales. I would have to say my favorite song is Cannibal Queen. Their last album Fortress, came out last summer and they're expecting to have another single out by this summer! Which I am looking forward to hearing. Hopefully a tour is in the near future, I would love to go see a gig!

The Submarines

The Submarines played at the Troubadour last night and were great. They are an indie pop sounding band from Los Angeles, CA. The members are John Dragonetti, Blake Hazard, and Jason Stare. I went to their show only knowing one or two songs, so I went with an open mind. I ended up LOVING them, the lead singer is a girl and she is darling! I loved how she kept talking to the audience and really including us in the show. She shared many stories to help us get a better understanding of the songs. I was so excited when they started to play my favorite song The Wake Up Song. I couldn't find a proper mp3 player for this song so just deal with the youtube version. ENJOY!

Pepper Rabbit

What a great show! Unfortunately due to me not knowing where to park (for free) it took my friend and I too long to park. We ended up only getting to see the last 5 songs of their set and I missed Older Brother. I was so bummed, it was the song I was looking forward too most. I also missed Red Wine as well! Even though I missed my favorite songs I still enjoyed the rest of the songs. Their set was very relaxed and looked like they were having fun. Like I said before, if you like Dr. Dog then you would love this band! Pepper Rabbit has a similar vibe as Dr. Dog that makes you feel at ease when you listen to their songs I would definitely go see them again, Pepper Rabbit is amazing. The next time they have a gig in the LA area I will not be late!

Peaches

One of my many idols. Merrill Beth Nisker or better known as her stage name Peaches. Originally from Canada, she now lives in Berlin, Germany. She plays her own songs & programs her own beats & she produces her own albums. "Her songs are noted for disregarding traditional gender norms and their use of sexually explicit lyrics." At the age of 44, this girl doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

FM Belfast

This electro/pop band is from Reykjavík, Iceland. There members are Lóa Hlín Hjálmtýsdóttir, Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson, Árni Vilhjálmsson and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason. Out of respect to their names don't even bother in asking me how to pronounce them cause I know I would butcher them. They have been making tunes since 2005 with a variety of different artists, the ones however I named are the core of the band. They are on my list to see live! I hear their shows are definitely worth seeing. My absolute favorite song by them is Par Avion. Majority of their tour is in Europe, but I hope one year they can make it to the States!

One Night Only

One Night Only had a gig in L.A. last night (5/2/2011) ! ONO is a Indie rock band from Helmsley, North Yorkshire and started in 2003. I didn't discover them until 2008 and ever since then I was hoping they would come to LA. FINALLY they did! Oh and wait it gets better, I saw them for FREE. I would have easily paid to see them, so that was icing on the cake. They performed for a Music Expo for a bunch of record labels around the LA area. I found out about this event through their twitter account. They had great vibes on the stage and you could tell that they were having a lot fun. I would definitely go see them again if they were to ever come back and tour in California.
My favorite song by One Night Only is Just for Tonight.

The music video to 'Say you don't want it' by One Night Only has a familiar face as the star girl. Since George Craig is a Burberry model he has worked with and become friends with Emma Watson. She is the muse for this music and I think she is perfect in the video!

Mumford & Sons

Thistle & Weeds is my absolute favorite song by them! When they played in live at Coachella, the whole crowd was quite and I got chills. The lead singer Marcus Mumford has such a unique voice. Their sound is so diverse from anything I have ever heard. I would label their genre of music as folk indie. I couldn't of asked for a better venue to see Mumford & Sons at, being in the desert and outside underneath the stars was amazing.

Pepper Rabbit

I am just to excited about this band! I am going to see them this Saturday (5/6/2011) at the Troubadour. The Submarines are headlining the show at the Troubadour. Pepper Rabbit reminds me of Dr. Dog, which is folk/indie/alternative sounding. Mellow and easy going sound, which can be very relaxing. My absolute favorite song by Pepper Rabbit is Older Brother.
